The Erin Arts Centre stage a live opera every September all performed in English. For the past 16 years the operas have been directed by Stefan Janski who was Head of Opera Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music until his retirement in 2017. He brings together singers from all over the British Isles for one week to rehearse and then perform an opera.
The 2018 production was the comic opera 'Don Pasquale' by Donizetti.
The 2019 Opera will be 'La Boheme' by Puccini. Once again Stefan will be directing and the Musical Director will be Caroline Dowdle.
Scenery is usually built in August which is why we never have many events in that month.
The singers come to the Island a week before the opera and spend the week putting the opera together. The main roles are sung by invited artistes and local singers fill the minor roles.
The Erin Arts Centre is the only venue on the Isle of Man to regularly perform live staged operas.
